Where the first 2 seasons of Orville were actually likable and funny it seems the re branded and renewed show for HULU is just, well, bad.

I'm 3 episodes in and absolutely ready to drop off. For some reason McFarlane went from comedic over reaching arcs with likeable characters to just preachy one shot eps. Not sure if it's his CT liberal roots or he just thinks he's being inciteful but this is the same reason we abandoned black'ish. After 2016 that show went from a very funny social commentary on everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) to just overly preachy about black plights then and still(?). If that was what you want a show to be then you should just start with that. Same with Orville. It seemed it lured in viewers with comedy sci fi and now turned to Seth's overly liberal views of society being our episodic lesson. I just finished episode 3, where half the crew were stuck in a giant illusions created by a superior god like species, this was also a call back to a previous seasons episode which I thought was tacky, and though it started interesting and strange it ended with Seth and his writers views on death, atheism, wanting to somehow subvert the course of life and how humans should be controlling their own evolution. I'm sure a species that can barely tie its own left shoe in harmony with their own right shoe could POSITIVELY control their own evolution.

One line in the episode that got me was the higher being saying that leaving evolution up to nature was messy and full of trial and error. She made it sound as if beings trying to control their own evolution wouldn't ALSO be full of messy trial and error? It's egotistical and borderline dangerous talk. Did she mention how many of her species were mutilated or sacrificed in their quest for evolutionary control and immortality? Or worse another species used as test subjects. Her only negative comments on her species past were the eras of religion. This also feels like Seth's personal views colliding with logic and reality. I'm not personally a religious individual but the leftist media attacks on the idea of it are getting so old it's borderline making ME want to go born again. It's just unneeded, and feels shoe horned for self indulgences sake. It also makes it seem like religion of the self and liberal ideologies (or any ideologies) aren't as bad as any organized religion. It's ludicrous.

I feel like the show has gone down a predictable spiral at this point where you KNOW what the daily lesson will be and its boring. The 2nd episode about a parasitic species the Krill view as demons and hell in their religion could have actually been very good had it maybe, actually been about something like that. Instead they realize the other species religious beliefs are just misunderstood and unknown science........ K? A species that is seen as the terror of the universe both technologically and logically just don't understand what they view as hell is just some spore? C'mon it would have been a GREAT opportunity to just make it UNKNOWN. Keep it scary. I was so excited to possibly see the giant abandoned space station be some otherworldly, godly, evil entity that no mind could comprehend and could ACTUALLY be seen as "a devil" because its incomprehensible. Almost Event Horizon'ish. Instead they took the easy way out and made it boring. Sometimes the unknown of space has to stay unknown.

Sorry but the Orville should have stayed at its original roots. SciFi comedy. I don't see Hulu bringing it back again at this rate. Possibly for the best.

Any Orville watchers have their own thoughts?

Just finished episode 5 and mind you I ONLY watch this because the other half feels like it will redeem itself back to the stature of season 1 & 2 somehow.

What a mess. As usual this season was more interested in dealing with some social "issue" over just being fun and funny like the first 2 seasons.

The social commentary this week seemed like it was supposed to deal with child trans issues, which c'mon is just fucking ridiculous to begin with and if this episode was trying to preach the point I think it was BOY did it miss the mark.

Back in season 1 (?) one of the crew who is from another planet made solely of males reproduced. Its a whole thing. The child was born and female. On their world, for whatever reason I forget, females are transitioned to male at birth. It was a stretch of a story but whatever. Back then it was a slight commentary wrapped in a much funnier and likeable episode. Not so now though.

Fast forward a couple seasons and this child is now like 12.....? Maybe their race ages faster, was never addressed. I mean I guess I HOPE she/he is 12 because if not she would be even younger and that's even more weird. So anywho the ep dealt with this kid feeling like it was in the wrong body. K. They dealt with the usual tropes of "well he/she is a child and doesnt know what they really want yet". One parent saying he could transition back to a she and the other against it. Telling it the truth, keeping it a secret, I don't fucking know I was busy on GAB while the other half was forcing herself through the episode.

In the end the kid figured out what happened and wanted to transition back to female. Super duper....... but this is also where all the failure to really make a point happened as well. Again I don't know 100% what Set McFarlane was going for socially here but knowing his super duper left leaning principals I think we can safely assume.

First off, the child was not male at birth so the idea of feeling like its in the wrong body is actually fine BUT using this as an example of a child actually BORN biologically as one sex and then entering the trans curiosity is in NO WAY the same lol. In actuality I would say the episode defended the other side of the child trans movement. The story related more to today's climate of wanting to push kids into the trans arena and the massive mental and physical toll they will face later when they realize they have made a HUGE mistake and wish to go back. their logic in this ep seemed seriously flawed and backwards. Its not like the Moklan (prob not spelled right but its their alien race) was born male and wanted to trans, it was born female, CONVINCED (forced) to trans then wanted to go back. Could this be what they WERE going for? Who knows but I REALLY doubt it, but hoorah for you Seth for actually defending against kids entering the trans movement without real knowledge of what theyre getting into. The only thing you were missing in the ep is all the money that could have been made off the poor kid's confusion! My other half also felt they were trying to push this "kids know whats best for them" message but then I explained my POV and she admitted my twist on the ep was really more accurate. Whether it was on purpose or not (not, eye roll/sigh) they only reinforced the fact that children will inevitably want to be what they were at birth more often than not and pushing them into the gay/trans arena too early is a BIG mistake.

The second lesson learned here, which I'm not sure they intended to do was making a MASSIVE statement on how "only one parents permission is needed to go along with the child's desires". This is a VERY dangerous move in any society. You look at the current left and their VERY loose sense on reality and very dangerous views on child safety and mental growth (groomers) and then leaving HUGE life decisions in the hands on THAT type of parent? You need one parents permission but what if that parent is a mentally deranged loon themselves? Both parents should have to consent to anything and everything other wise why would both legally be bound to the child financially and legally? He opened this entire debate up for a slap in the face to the side that thinks only one parent should have all the say. This stuff is actually happening in Canada right now actually. A father tried to fight his daughters transition to male while the liberal mother is more than happy to be able to get her tik tok followers up by sacrificing her kid. They threw the dad in jail for it. Damn Canada you North Koreaning it up good!

Tell me, which parent seems more sane in this situation? The one who wants their kid to mentally mature and be sure they are ready for anything this vast or the one that thinks this can be a passing phase and their pre teen is more than capable of deciding to get their breasts removed, put on dangerous hormones and who knows what else. Would this same parent be fine with handing their small child their car keys and going out gallivanting until 3am? Would they let their child quit school and go work in fast food or god forbid whatever else (I honestly just don't want to say but I think we all know where I'm going with this). To me the mother is weak in this particular story. Mentally and physically weak. Simply looking for reassurance from someone, anyone who will tell her she's good and doing a good job. Whether that be her own minor child, the mainstream media, the grooming left, Big Px who stands to make MILLIONS off her kid...... ANYONE, except sane people. Not the type of person who should be a parent at all.

Either way the show, as usual, tried to send a message but in the end it not only falls flat but actually ends up defending the more centered/right side of the argument. Let your kid grow up THEN decide for themselves. Otherwise go get them a batman costume now because when they say they want to be a superhero at NINE and go fight crime will you have the hoots-pa to tell them "no, stop being stupid".
